What's better the nVidia Geforce 8 series or 9 series and which ones?
I'm hoping to build a computer soon and I need to know which is the best graphics card to get. I was thinking of buying a Geforce 9800GT at 600Mhz but a friend told me that the 9 series is a 'budget series'. Is this true? I'm hoping to get a card with a core clock speed of over 700Mhz, any recommendations would be great! Thanks 
Series 9 GeForce cards have quite a lot of so called ''budget cards'' within the Series 9 range. The surprising thing is that some of the so called 'budget cards' offer quite a good performance for the price.
But you are certainly on the right track if you are after a card which has a clock speed of over 700 MHz. Definitely stick to looking at 9800 cards and research your purchase carefully before making your decision. I would also advise you to compare some ATI cards as an example. Although some may have a slower core clock speed, it may make it up by having a higher memory clock.
The 9800GT has a core clock speed of 600 MHz, Shader clock of 1500 MHz, and memory clock of 900 MHz. 9800GTX has has a core clock speed of 675 MHz, Shader clock of 1688 MHz, and memory clock of 1100 MHz.
But since you quoted a clock speed of 700 MHz and over then 9800GTX+ is the card for you. It has a core clock speed of 738 MHz, Shader clock of 1836 MHz, and memory clock of 1100 MHz.
You also mentioned that you plan to build a custom PC, so make sure that your power supply is adequate and up to the task. I would recommend 700W PSU at the very least considering the fact that 9800GTX+ consumes 160W at the maximum load alone. And if you plan to put a couple of those in SLI then I suggest you look for a PSU which delivers 1000W or above.
